(Cosdna)

Personally I don’t have a problem with this ingredient list.  They are not bad in this specific instance but if you’re very picky with your products…a hardcore green beauty… then you might not like it.

Triethanolamine (TEA): Triethanolamine is used in makeup products such as eyeliners, mascara, eye shadows, blushers, make-up bases and foundations, as well as in fragrances, hair care products, hair dyes, wave sets, shaving products, sunscreens, and skin care and skin cleansing products. It acts as a pH adjuster in the formula.

The CIR (Cosmetic Ingredient Review) evaluated the scientific data and concluded that Triethanolamine were safe for use in cosmetics and personal care products designed for discontinuous, brief use followed by thorough rinsing from the surface of the skin. Since this is a cleanser, we have nothing to worry about.

In products intended for prolonged contact with the skin, the concentration of Triethanolamine should not exceed 5%. Triethanolamine should not be used in products containing N-nitrosating agents to prevent the formation of possibly carcinogenic nitrosamines.

In EU: Triethanolamine may be used in non-rinse-off and other cosmetics and personal care products at a maximum concentration of 2.5%.

Phenoxyethanol: as a preservative at concentration below 1%.

Undiluted Phenoxyethanol was a strong eye irritant, but was nonirritating when tested at 2.2%. Phenoxyethanol at 2.0% was a slight irritant to rabbit skin, but was neither an irritant nor sensitizer to guinea pig skin”

“In dermal treatment studies, Phenoxyethanol was neither teratogenic, embryotoxic, or fetotoxic at doses which were maternally toxic. Phenoxyethanol was nonmutagenic in the Ames test, with and without metabolic activition, and in the mouse micronucleus test.”

The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) concluded that phenoxyethanol was safe as a cosmetic ingredient under current conditions of use (i.e., up to concentrations of 1.0% in cosmetic and personal care products).

Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009 of the European Union lists phenoxyethanol in Annex V, the list of preservatives allowed in cosmetic products.  The maximum concentration in ready for use concentrations is 1.0%.

Sodium C14-16 olefin sulfonate or Sodium Alpha-Olefin Sulfonates: acts as surfactant, to cleans skin, and/or foam booster, stablilizer.

“The CIR Expert Panel evaluated the scientific data and concluded that Sodium Alpha-Olefin Sulfonates (of chain lengths C12-14, C14-16, C14-18, and C16-18) were safe as used in rinse-off products and safe up to 2% in leave-on products.”

“The CIR Expert Panel noted that Sodium Alpha-Olefin Sulfonates are poorly absorbed through normal skin, but are significantly absorbed through damaged skin. Short-term toxicity studies showed no consistent effects, even with exposures in the 0.5-1.0 g/kg range. Concentrations above 10% produced moderate ocular irritation and a concentration of 5% produced mild ocular irritation. In reproductive and developmental toxicity studies, fetal abnormalities were noted, but only at doses that were maternally toxic.”

Allow to use in EU.

Disodium cocoamphodiacetate: also acts as surfactant, to clean skin. It is mild foaming. Normally in cleansing products you will see a combination of 2 or 3 surfactants working together.

Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) and European cosmetics regulation have determined sodium cocoamphoacetate were neither irritants nor sensitizers and it is safe to use in personal care products.

Betaine salicylate, lactic acid: Exfoliants

DetoxySmooth Cleanser contains lot of great ingredients: Panthenol, camellia sinensis leaf extract, lavandula angustifolia (lavender) extract, and many more.  But you know my stand on using too many extracts in a wash off product.  I think it’s wasteful because none of that will stick to our skin.  They will only be in contact with our skin for a short period of time so none will be absorb.  All I need from a cleanser is for it to do a good job of cleansing without damage my acid mantle.

Who is it for?

  • Anyone who likes foaming cleansers. This doesn’t give you a big lather but it still foams pretty well. Also the pH is on point! It’s listed at pH 4.8 and when I tested it with my alkaline tap water it’s btw 5-6
  • Anyone whose skin is not too sensitive which can stand a gentle exfoliation.
  • CelleCle is cruelty-free and not tested on animals, vegan.  So it’s for anyone who’s passionate about that cause.

How do you use it?

  • I used it as a second cleanser.  I love to use this in the morning.   It smells so fresh and gentle. Face is so smooth after.

Price & where to buy

  • From CelleCle skincare website: $44 for 150 ml pump bottle.
  • It does take only a tiny bit to foam up so the bottle will last a long time.

My results

  • I really love using this cleanser. The foaming action is very similar to Cerave foaming facial cleanser but this smell lovely with a hint of fruity notes. Also it feels more lux! I can’t stop washing my face 🙂 I might have massage a tad too long!
  • My face is soft, smooth and clean after washing. Skin doesn’t feel dry or tight.

Worth repurchase?

  • Yes

NOTE: I received this as a gift from the CelleCle team but that doesn’t affect how I write the review. Opinions are my own.
